COVINGTON -- A bride of two months cut her husband's throat during an altercation in the early morning hours Saturday, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Sheree Shanta Stanley, 38, of 280 Capeton Court., has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children in connection with the incident. Her husband, Derrick Lamonn Spivey, was also charged with cruelty to children in connection with the argument that precipitated the incident, said NCSO spokesman Lt. Tyrone Oliver.

Oliver said the two had apparently gone to an area club Friday night.

"The husband left the club and came home and left his wife there," Oliver said, adding that when the wife arrived home sometime between 1:30 and 3:30 a.m. an argument ensued.

"They were struggling over a knife and as a result the husband was cut in the throat with the knife," Oliver said. "He called 911 and was transported to Newton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries."

Although the couple has no children together, there were three children -- ages 13, 11 and 2 -- in the home at the time of the altercation.

In other crime news, a 19-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 3-year-old, Oliver said.

Brandon Arnold of 45 Shenandoah Drive faces charges of rape and aggravated child molestation in connection with an incident that occurred around midnight Saturday.

Oliver said the toddler and her mother were at the home of the 19-year-old and his 18-year-old brother while the parents of the two teens were out.

"The 3-year-old was in the back bedroom asleep," Oliver said. "Mom was walking to the back bedroom to check on the child and saw the 19-year-old male coming out of the room. When she checked on the child, she realized something was wrong and called us."

Oliver said investigators found evidence that an assault had occurred, but in the meantime, the 19-year-old had fled to a wooded area behind the home.

"He was found and arrested and transported to the detention center," Oliver said.
