The Newton County Fire Explorers from Post 555 recently took a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., and competed against 75 other posts at the annual Winterfest. The competition centered around exercises that a firefighter might encounter. "We had a great time and the Explorers worked very hard during the events," said post advisor Steve Raulerson. Events included such things as Entanglement, Quick Dress, Hazmat, Wake up, Jacob and Communications. Quick Dress best time was 39 seconds, achieved by Caleb Bone. "The Newton County Fire Explorers would like to say 'thank you' to everyone who bought doughnuts in front of Fire Station 1. You helped support our trip," Raulerson said.
