COVINGTON -- The engines are revving up in preparation for the annual Chase Cain Memorial Foundation Motorcycle Ride on March 26. This year's event will be the seventh since the foundation was established in 2005.

"This foundation was created to celebrate the life and legacy of Chase Cain. Cain, who was tragically killed in a car accident in October 2004, was an Eastside High School graduate, a dedicated volunteer for the YMCA and an avid soccer player," said Sonya Hopper, who serves on the foundation board.

The foundation has sought to pass along Cain's remarkable qualities to others and encourage them to make an impact today.

The foundation offers scholarships at all three Newton County high schools, as well as one scholarship to private educational institutions based on academics, extra-curricular activities and involvement in leadership roles among student peers. Other participation by the foundation includes events sponsored by the FFA/FCCA, the YMCA and assistance to wounded law enforcement officers. In 2008 the foundation also helped establish soccer fields a the YMCA's Outdoor facility on Stone Road.

"Thanks to the generous donations of our sponsors, we were able to donate to the YMCA, the Miracle League, the FFA Wilderness Camps and other worthy organizations," Hopper said. "Every year, the foundation rewards scholarships to graduating seniors who excel in school, are active in their community, and have decisive plans to give back to their community. We have a couple of fundraisers each year to support our goal to support young people and give back to our community."

Hopper said there are a couple of ways the public can support the foundation.

"First, please help us spread the word by inviting your friends to the ride on March 26," she said. "Second, your financial support is greatly appreciated. Last, but not least, we would love for you to join us on March 26 for food, fun and fellowship."

Organizers are looking for corporate sponsorships ranging in price from $2,500 to $200, as well as donations for raffles and door prizes.

The ride will depart from Sharp Gym, across from Covington YMCA, on Newton Drive at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The fee is $20 per bike with donations accepted for additional riders. Breakfast will be provided with a raffle to follow the ride.
