Third-graders at the Montessori School of Covington worked on a flower garden in the sunshine Thursday. Above, Erin King and parent volunteer Ashley Flynn put a plant into the soil that Erin will be able to watch through the season as it grows and blooms. At right, student Yu-Mei Rogers bravely holds an earthworm that was disturbed by all the gardening activity. First-graders are working on an herb garden and second-graders are in charge of fruit and vegetables. For more photos of the planting event, go to www.newtoncitizen.com.
