CONYERS -- Law enforcement said no foul play was involved in Tuesday's death of a 10-year-old Hightower Trail Elementary School student.
The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office responded to the emergency room of Rockdale Medical Center Tuesday evening when the child was brought in and died after an unknown cause, according to RCSO spokesperson Sgt. Jodi Shupe.
"We routinely investigate the death of any person, just to ensure there is no foul play involved," Shupe said Tuesday afternoon. "An autopsy was performed on the child and, at this time, no foul play is indicated."
Hightower Trail Elementary School Principal Laura Bates sent an automated call to parents Tuesday afternoon, after informing staff and students earlier in the day, that one of her students passed away Monday night at Rockdale Medical Center.
Bates told parents grief counselors were at the school Tuesday and would be available today, if needed. She said in the message counselors are especially focusing on fourth- and fifth-grade classes.
