COVINGTON -- The Newton County Sheriff's Office said arrests are "likely" as their investigation continues into a drive-by shooting in the Mountain View Estates subdivision during the early morning hours Monday.

According to NCSO Public Information Officer Deputy Courtney Morrison, the incident during which "multiple shots" were fired occurred about midnight Monday.

"Deputies were responding to 215 Mountain Ridge in reference to a family fight," she explained. "While en route, dispatch advised them they were also getting complaints of several gunshots being discharged in the area."

Morrison said one of the responding deputies was flagged down when he entered the subdivision and told shots were fired and it sounded as if they were coming from 125 Mountain Drive.

While deputies responded to the fight complaint, other deputies were sent to the area where the gunshots had been heard.

"They found several .45-caliber shell casings in the street and property damage at 125 Mountain Drive," Morrison said. "There were bullet holes in the house and a vehicle at the residence."

Morrison said as the dual investigation was occurring, yet another caller phoned 911 and told the dispatcher that the people who did the shooting were at the scene of the fight call.

"There were numerous people inside the residence (at 215 Mountain Ridge) and everyone was detained for investigative purposes," she said.

Investigators were called to the scene and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Morrison said no other criminal activity was discovered to have been taking place and no one was injured in the incident.
