COVINGTON -- Residents who need a quick introduction to zoning and planning processes and regulations have a chance to get one for free.
The Newton County Department of Development Services is hosting a Zoning 101 Class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at Turner Lake Complex located at 6185 Turner Lake Road.
The program is being spearheaded by Georgia Tech intern Lauren Spencer with help from Development Services Director Scott Sirotkin and Zoning Administrator Branin Burdette.
Burdette said residents who come to Development Services often have lots of questions about the zoning process, and this presentation is intended to address those issues.
"As to who may be interested in this subject, I think it could be a wide range of people -- those that may be concerned about development in their neighborhood, property owners who may want to build on their property or do something that would require permits through this department," Burdette said. "There are also those people who are completely in the dark as to what zoning is. Many people don't understand the concept or how zoning applies to them. It is our intent with this presentation to clarify some of these issues. This is also why we are leaving some time at the end to address anyone's questions or concerns."
For more information, call Burdette at 678-625-1656 or email bburdette@co.newton.ga.us.
