This fellow looks a bit timid at having his picture taken and is probably a little apprehensive after leaving his family and being placed in a shelter. He's a 4-year-old wire-haired Dachshund and was given up by his owner in the hopes that a good home can be found for him. He's hoping somebody will come quickly as he's ready and eager to start his new life. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals.

The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
