COVINGTON -- A 19-year-old Geiger Street resident has been charged with reckless conduct in connection with the apparent accidental shooting of another teen.

Sandrico P. Belyeu of 6163 Geiger St. N.W. was charged Friday afternoon following an investigation into the incident that left an 18-year-old Oxford man wounded in the right forearm and hip. The incident took place at Belyeu's residence.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. where they found the victim lying in the entrance to the residence. Police questioned three witnesses, including the suspect, who said that the shooter had fled the scene on foot down Haygood Street.

Police located the weapon used in the incident -- a Mossberg 22 rifle -- in a wooded area behind the residence.

After questioning the witnesses police determined that Belyeu had apparently accidentally shot the victim.

According to Lt. Ken Malcom, the victim was shot in the forearm and the bullet passed through his forearm and into his hip. "He was transported to Grady (Memorial Hospital) by ground ambulance. It does not appear that his injuries were life-threatening," Malcom said.
