CONYERS -- The Conyers Garden Club will celebrate National Garden Week with a "Lunch and Learn" event Wednesday, June 8, at the Olde Town Pavilion.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and is held in conjunction with garden clubs across the country to celebrate the joys and importance of gardening. The event is open to the public
The Conyers Lunch and Learn will begin with a visit by local vendors and growers offering gardening supplies and plants. At 11:30 a.m., Dan Rothwell, engineering manager for Rockdale County Storm Water Utility, will share information on rain barrels and rain gardens.
Jule-Lynne Macie, Rockdale County Extension coordinator, will share information on plants for rain gardens and your water drainage areas at noon. The event concludes with drawings for door prizes.
The annual Lunch and Learn event is part of the Conyers Garden Club's ongoing work in the community to promote beautification, conservation and education in Rockdale County.
Other club projects include Seasonal Plantings at the Olde Jail and Museum, fresh handmade holiday wreaths at the Olde Jail, Blue Star Memorial marker maintenance, Garden Therapy projects for state regional hospitals, donation of various gardening and art books to the local library in recognition of National Garden Week or for a member's passing, Shoe Box Gardening and other donations to help children and families in our community, "Pull and Save a Tab" project to benefit area Ronald McDonald Houses, and Light House Village planting bed of the Children's Garden.
