COVINGTON -- Hollywood's spotlight will be shining bright on Newton County next week, with two movies filming here.

The comedy/drama "Jayne Mansfield's Car" will film at Lester Lackey and Sons Funeral Home on Reynolds Street in Covington Wednesday. Lester Lackey said filming will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., likely both inside and outside his business.

The movie is being directed by Billy Bob Thornton, who also stars and is a co-writer. Thornton is perhaps best known for the 1996 film "Sling Blade," which he wrote, directed and starred in, and for which he won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Other stars of "Jayne Mansfield's Car" include Kevin Bacon, Robert Duvall and Dennis Quaid. Lackey said he's not sure which cast members will be there Wednesday. Representatives from the production company did not return requests for more information.

Lackey said he doesn't know how the historic building caught the eye of location scouts.

"That's a good question. They just liked the building I guess," he said.

The movie has primarily been filming in Cedartown. According to the Internet Movie Database, the plot centers on a culture clash between two families -- one American, one British -- who come together for a funeral in 1969. The film is slated to be released in 2013.

In other movie news, "American Reunion" will be filming at Newton High School Monday through Friday.

The movie is part of the "American Pie" series that began in 1999 and includes much of the original cast, such as Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Shannon Elizabeth and Seann William Scott, who are all back in town for a class reunion and dealing with growing up, according to the Internet Movie Database. The movie is expected to be released in April 2012.

The film company will use the school's gym for a reunion prom set, football field, commons area and hallways. The set could have up to 150 crew members and 200 extras at one time and would need access to parking areas at both NHS and Porterdale Elementary School, as well as the NHS cafeteria.
