CONYERS -- Only a few months after returning from China, the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for another international trip. This time the destination is Spain.
The Chamber is inviting travelers to join them in an eight-day trip Nov. 13-20 to Spain's two largest cities -- Barcelona and Madrid.
This trip is an encore to the October 2010 trip to China that the Chamber hosted. More than 40 people went on the trip.
Chamber Executive Director Fred Boscarino said the trips are fundraising opportunities for the Chamber.
The trip is open to anyone, even those who are not Chamber members. And Boscarino said the rates would be hard to compare to travel agencies and Web rates.
"These trips are specially designed for Chambers of Commerce," Boscarino said. "So the rates are very, very inexpensive and you get a lot for your money."
The $2,199 per person fee covers round-trip airfare, lodging, transportation, and some meals. The fee also includes tours of Barcelona's Las Ramblas Boulevard, a famous street, and Spain's Prado Museum, home of painting exhibits from several world-famous Spanish artists. Travelers will have English-speaking tour guides and a chance to explore on their own and experience the culture.
"It's a vacation. It's fun," Boscarino said.
Collette Vacations is the sponsoring tour operator.
"They've been in the business for decades," Boscarino said, mentioning the work the company also does with other Chambers of Commerce. "They're a first-class operation."
The first of two informational sessions will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Corner Market meeting room on Parker Road, for people to learn more details about the trip. The meeting is just to learn more about what is offered and no commitments to participate will be required.
Boscarino said people have already called the Chamber about the Barcelona trip.
"We're hoping we have a lot of interest so, hopefully, we'll see what happens at our pre-tour briefing and go from there," Boscarino said.
Membership Services coordinator Stephanie Layson said the Chamber asked the group its preference between Ireland or Barcelona and Madrid for the next trip.
"It was pretty even, but I think Barcelona came up higher on the list, and we went with that," Layson said.
