Rush 50th Anniversary

Charles "Pat" Rush and Peggy Turner Rush of Covington celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 14. They celebrated with their children, their children's spouses and their grandchildren at the Smith House in Dahlonega, Ga.

They have two sons, Rhett and Kale, and one daughter, Gwen. They have one granddaughter and five grandsons.

Pat was originally from Troy, S.C., and graduated in 1956 from Greenwood High School. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1960, he joined the U.S. Air Force. There he flew C-130's all over the world and HH-3E Jolly Green Giant Rescue Helicopters in Vietnam, rescuing eight downed fighter pilots in Laos and North Vietnam. Pat completed his six-year tour in the Air Force in 1966 with the rank of captain. While in the Air Force, the Rushes lived in Texas, Arizona, Reno, Nev., and Charleston, S.C.

Pat then became a pilot with Eastern Air Lines. He flew for 24 years, before retiring as a captain on the Douglas DC-9.

Peggy is originally from Hickory Tavern, S.C. She is a 1959 graduate of Greenwood High School. She acquired a cosmetology license after high school. She also was employed with Stanley Proto Tool Corporation where she was a customer service representative in Covington.

The Rushes are both retired now and enjoy staying busy with their grandchildren and country living .
