On Jan. 22, the CARE committee, a nonprofit organization, held a silent auction in Porterdale. This was a benefit to raise funds to assist the needy families of Porterdale. This was our first event like this and we really didn't know what to expect. However, it turned out great as well as a lot of fun and it is all because of the business owners and individuals in Porterdale and Newton County that stepped up to help us.
We would sincerely like to say thank you to all who helped in so many ways to make this a success. First, Walter Davis donated the space for us and Charles and Beverly Turner worked very hard helping us with the entire event. Anita and Larry Denny provided our entertainment for the evening. Some of the businesses that donated items were Van-Go's studio, The Oaks Golf Course, Pbg, Emma Elaine Photography, Sigman Bottle shop and Burnie's Bar-B-Q, as well as local artists Arline Chapman, Kay Hill, Ian Nichols, Tina Reed and many individuals. If I have left out anyone please forgive me. We really do appreciate everyone's help. We look forward to our next auction and to seeing all of you again.
