COVINGTON -- If you want to have a say in whether SPLOST 2011 is approved in the March 15 special election, time is running out.
The voter registration deadline is Monday, Feb. 14. To register, visit the Secretary of State's website at http://sos.georgia.gov and download a registration form, then mail it to P.O. Box 1274, Covington, GA, 30015. Or, visit the Board of Elections in the Newton County Administration Building at 1113 Usher St., Suite 103. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"If you're already registered, you don't have to register again just for this election," Board of Elections Director Donna Morrison said.
Those who aren't sure if they are registered can visit the Secretary of State's website and click on "My Voter Page" and fill out the form to get registration status, poll location, a sample ballot and more.
Though a 45-day early voting period is not required by law for the special election, Morrison said she expects early voting will begin at the Board of Elections, located in the Administration Building, in early February.
Voters can call 770-784-2055 to check on whether early voting is under way before making a trip, she said. On March 15, voting will take place in all county precincts, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
