PORTERDALE -- Tickets will be on sale through Friday for Monte Carlo for the Arts, the annual fundraiser for Southern Heartland Arts Inc.
The event, sponsored by United Bank and Air Conditioning Specialist Inc. will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Porterdale Mill Event Center, with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit organization's Instructional Fund and the James P. Hayes Cardinal Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships for graduating seniors, summer art camp and other visual art programs.
This is the fourth year of the fundraiser, and organizers hope to raise at least $10,000. Social hour and a full course prime rib buffet dinner catered by Stalvey's will be followed by a live auction featuring getaways such as a two-night stay in a villa at Lake Oconee's Cuscowilla Resort, a vacation at a two bedroom cabin at Lake Richard B. Russell, a barbecue dinner for 16, antique furniture and a week-long stay in a three-bedroom beach home near Carabelle, Fla. A silent auction will feature artwork and furniture.
Casino games will follow the live auction, with players using pretend money that can be cashed in for raffle tickets. Players can deposit raffle tickets with the door prize of their choice, and, with more than 40 door prizes valued from $50 to $300 to be handed out, co-chair Susan Wahl said winners should easily pay for the cost of their tickets.
This year, Southern Heartland will host four summer art camps as well as an advanced camp, with three to four students per camp receiving scholarships. The organization also hands out scholarships to local high school seniors. This year, the fundraiser will also benefit an Eastside High School art student who is trying to raise money to study in Europe, Wahl said.
Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased by calling Southern Heartland Art Gallery at 770-788-8799.
