SOCIAL CIRCLE — Nia Smith has been named the Social Circle Boys & Girls Club 2011 Youth of the Year.
Smith, a senior at Social Circle High School, has been a member of the local Boys & Girls Club for four years. She was recognized earlier this month by the Social Circle City Council, as well as at the "Dining with the Stars" banquet hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Georgia Board of Directors.
Darrell Corder, site director with the Social Circle Boys & Girls Club, said being named Youth of the Year "is the highest and most esteemable honor that a Boys & Girls Club member can achieve."
Smith, who has received numerous leadership awards during her tenure as a member of the Boys & Girls Club, was recently appointed to the Better Hometown Junior Ambassador Program.
"One of the most appealing things about Nia is her character and her attitude," Corder said. "She is modest, always poised, respectful and considerate. But most notable is her quiet resolve and humble attitude. Not one to seek recognition or notoriety, she meets her responsibilities with a persistence and commitment unparalleled by her peers. She is leader amongst the teens; a mentor and role model to the younger members."
