Newton County Schools will remained closed to students and staff on Friday.
"Following consultation with our NCSS Operations personnel, as well as receiving various reports from various governmental entities this afternoon, the Newton County School System will not be in session for students or any employees on Friday," said NCSS Superintendent Gary Mathews. "Secondary road conditions, especially, are not safe as of yet for our buses. Additionally, some parking lots and sidewalks remain iced."
Schools are expected to reopen Tuesday after Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
