Newton County Schools will remained closed to students and most staff on Thursday.
"NCSS Operations personnel have been out in the county (Wednesday), checking major roads, subdivisions, parking lots, sidewalks and the like. As a result, we have concluded that while conditions are passable in some areas of the county, they are not in other parts of the county," said NCSS Superintendent Gary Mathews. "Some major roads still have significant icing and are dangerous to drive on. Secondary roads are not in good shape either and many side streets are still in bad condition."
He said only 12-month custodial staff should report to work at noon Thursday in an effort to check out each of our facilities and to make preparation for a possible return to school on Friday.
