COVINGTON -- One of the Newton County School System's top officials will leave the system at the end of the school year.

Linda Hayden, associate superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, announced on Monday her retirement, effective June 30.

"Dr. Hayden has served children very well over the years, and she will be greatly missed," said Gary Mathews, superintendent of NCSS, in a message to the staff on Monday morning.

Hayden has worked in public education for more than 30 years; she has been employed at NCSS for four years.

She was not available for comment as of press time Monday.
