CONYERS -- Salem Road was closed Monday afternoon following a vehicle accident that knocked down power lines between Golfview Drive and Country Walk Way.
A sedan crashed into a power pole near Golfview Drive at around 2 p.m. The crash toppled the pole and cut power service to about 4,000 residents and businesses nearby. A work crew from Snapping Shoals Electric Membership Corp. was dispatched and working to repair the line, according to Leigh Ann Burgess, Snapping Shoals EMC spokeswoman.
The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office closed Salem Road between Golfview Drive and Country Walk Way until about 7 p.m. Monday to allow crews to restore service. The RCSO encourages motorists to avoid the area, if possible. Southbound traffic is being rerouted through Avondale Springs subdivision.
RCSO Lt. Myra Pearrell said there was one person transported from the crash scene to a local hospital. "Injuries are not considered life threatening, but it serious enough to warrant transport to the hospital," Pearrell said.
