COVINGTON -- Newton County Fire Service firefighters worked for about six hours to extinguish and clean up after a fire that began about 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said a tractor-trailer's tires caught on fire, catching the trailer and its contents on fire at the intersection of Ga. Highway 20 and Brown Bridge Road. The trailer was transporting a load of paper and it wasn't until nearly 3 p.m. that traffic was able to flow freely through the intersection.
