The following charges and arrests were reported by the Newton County Sheriff's Office, Covington Police Department, Oxford Police Department and Porterdale Police Department:* Hadiza Ali, 65, 80 Rosemoore Drive, battery (Family Violence Act).* David Laure Barnes, 53, 35 Hazel St., Porterdale, court sentenced to serve 46 hours.* Quavis Javone Benford, 31, 8104 Sterling Lake Drive, contempt order.* Lederrick O'Neal Blackwell, 23, 375 Cowan Road, possession, manufacturing, distributing, etc. of controlled substance.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office has recovered three stolen automobiles in the last few days.
SPLOST would expand judicial center
The Newton County Judicial Center was slated to be at full capacity in 2013, but it's already there. A $7 million expansion to be funded through SPLOST revenues will alleviate crowding at the building, which is "bursting at the seams," according to Chairman Kathy Morgan.
