The Newton County School System recently announced the winners of the 2010-11 district Literacy Days Recitation, Drama and Ready Writing Competition.

Each middle school held poetry competitions at school and sent their grade level winners to participate in the county recitation contest.

Competitors were judged on a number of criteria in the poetry recitation contest, including stage presence, articulation, interpretation, memory and accuracy and difficulty of the piece.

"I'm very proud of all the students who participated both in the school and county competitions," said Samantha Fuhrey, director of Secondary Curriculum. "Each and every one of these students is a winner for volunteering to participate in these activities. I congratulate all of the students who won at the county competition and look forward to seeing them participate in the regional competition in Griffin in February. I know they will represent our school system well."
