CONYERS -- The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the man discovered dead in a burned pickup truck over the weekend.
The man was identified as Martin Mendoza Villa-Gomez, 36, of Auburn in Barrow County, Rockdale County Sheriff Jeff Wigington told the Citizen on Monday afternoon.
"We don't know the cause of death," Wigington said. "We're still waiting on autopsy results. It's still in the early stages of the investigation."
Authorities have been investigating the death since Rockdale County firefighters found the burned vehicle Feb. 5 off the roadway on Turner Road near Abbott Road. Firefighters discovered the man's remains in the bed of the truck, according to RCSO's press release issued Saturday afternoon.
Further details about the incident were not available by press time.
