CONYERS -- Rockdale County firefighters discovered a man's body Saturday in the back of a burned-out truck off of Turner Road.

The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office was quickly called to investigate the death of the man. The body was badly burned. Investigators scheduled an autopsy that could possibly be done today, according to RCSO spokeswoman Sgt. Jodi Shupe.

The Sheriff's Office was able to identify the man and has notified the family. However, the man's identity was not being released due to the nature of the investigation Saturday night, Shupe said.

Firefighters with the Rockdale County Fire and Rescue Department discovered the body Saturday afternoon as they were traveling back to headquarters after responding to an auto accident, Shupe said.

The firefighters noticed a burned pickup truck off the roadway on the 2500 block of Turner Road near Abbott Road. After looking into the vehicle, they discovered the remains of a body in the bed of the truck.

"They approached the truck to check it out, and when they saw the body, they called us," Shupe said.

Investigators are working to gather more information about the incident as the scene around the truck was taped off. Shupe said Saturday night investigators were working to determine the man's whereabouts leading up to his death.
