Pets are available for adoption at Rockdale, Newton animal shelters

This little guy looks like he could be the perfect prop in a Christmas pageant, but he'll be spending Christmas alone this year at the stables of the animal shelter. He was found dumped out on the side of the road and needs a new home. He's a small mule, probably about 5 years old, with beautiful markings and is very friendly. His favorite thing is to have his head scratched and hates to see any potential "scratcher" leave. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. where they are accepting sealed bids from those interested in providing a home for this little guy. Bids start at $100 and will be accepted until noon on Jan. 6. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
