Rise of the Planet of the Apes Blu-ray (PG-13)
Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars Coming in just a hair short of the first installment from 1968 in the shock-value/social commentary departments, this origin/prelude far outdistances it in terms of technical prowess and intensity. After a decade of painfully finding its sea legs, motion-capture finally hits full-stride thanks largely in part to the otherworldly performance from Andy Serkis who provides the motion and audio for Caesar, a genius primate who sets in motion the revolution that will lead to the overthrow of the human race. This is thinking-person's sci-fi action at its most sublime. Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/2.39:1), audio: English (Dolby DTS-HD MA 5.1), French and Spanish (DTS 5.1), subtitles: English and Spanish.
