Pets available for adoption this week in Newton, Rockdale counties

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

-- Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

-- Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

-- Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

-- Which pet is right for my home and my family?

This little fellow has had a bad start in life, but he's hoping things will soon get better. He's a Labrador-mix and about 2 months old. He was found wandering as a stray. He'll weigh 40 to 50 pounds as a healthy adult and is up-to-date on shots and deworming. Hee can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514.
