GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A Gainesville man has been sentenced to life prison in connection with a deadly shooting at a housing complex in the northeast Georgia city.
The Times of Gainesville reports that Christopher Slaughter on Thursday was found guilty of murder in the October 2009 killing of 19-year-old Aikeem Hall in the parking lot of the Atlanta Street Apartments.
Northeastern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Kathlene Gosselin sentenced the 20-year-old to life in prison after the jury reached its verdict.
Slaughter's lawyer, Travis A. Williams, had argued that Hall had been bullying his client, and that the killing was done in self-defense. Prosecutors disputed that account of the shooting.
