McRay starring for Lancers: Former Rockdale guard Portia McRay certainly seems to be adjusting well to the college game. McRay, who led the Bulldogs in scoring and to a state tournament berth as a senior, has been excellent in her first year of junior college basketball. In nine games through November 29, McRay averaged 16.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game for Eastern Wyoming Junior College in Torrington, Wyoming. The Lancers played at Air Force Prep on Dec. 6.
Roddenberry not missing much for Harding: Former Salem basketball player Zach Roddenberry scored a team-high 18 points in Division II Harding University's 72-60 loss to Christian Brothers. Roddenberry, a 6-8 junior forward, hit 7-of-8 field goals to improve on his incredible season numbers. In seven games, Roddenberry has hit 80 percent of his attempts from the field (36-of-45), while averaging 12.4 points per game for the Bison of the Great American Conference.
Thompson up and down start for FGCU: Bernard Thompson has seen some good and bad in his first month in collegiate basketball. The former Rockdale star, now a freshman guard at Florida Gulf Coast, is second on the team in scoring (10.3 points per game) and tied for second in rebounding (5.2/game).
Though he has struggled at times to find his shot, Thompson has made 37 percent of his three-point attempts playing 27 minutes per game for the Atlantic Sun school. In the Eagles' conference opening win over East Tennessee State, Thompson scored seven points and had a pair of assists, though he followed that with just three points in a non-conference loss to Nebraska.
Florida Gulf Coast (3-6) has a long break before continuing Atlantic Sun play against USC Upstate on Dec. 19.
