This movie was definitely one of the more serious films I've seen in a while. Painful events and drama unfold for Matt King (powerfully played by George Clooney) as he first deals with the news of his wife's permanent coma. He finds out soon after that she was being unfaithful. On top of this tough news, he has two daughters that are also dealing with their own issues. There are many emotional moments throughout this movie, of acceptance, anger, forgiveness, grace, betrayal, etc.

We also watch as Matt makes a big business decision regarding property in Hawaii (enjoy the beautiful scenery) of which he is the sole trustee. Though painful to watch at times, this film was an honest attempt at portraying the complications of relationships and problems that can hit many a family. There was plenty of good acting, including that of the oldest daughter, Alexandra, played by Shailene Woodley.-- Cindy Evans, DuluthThere has been a lot of Oscar buzz around "The Descendants" and I was interested to see if it would live up to the hype. For the most part, it did.

The acting, especially by George Clooney and Shailene Woodley, was award worthy. I am still amazed at how far George has come from his days on television sitcoms.

There were parts where the story dragged a little, but, overall, the story was well written and engaging. There was plenty of humor in the movie, but the end was a tear-jerker and I could hear sniffles from most of the audience members. I can't wait until award season rolls around to see how this film and the actors will be recognized.-- Laurel Grams, Lawrenceville
