Carolyn Hoyte has worked in the law and real estate professions but the Conyers resident thinks she's finally found a way to make a living doing something she loves -- entertaining guests with her culinary skills.

Hoyte recently launched her new business Divine Decadent Catering & Event Planning. Based in Conyers, the catering company offers an eclectic mix of appetizers, main courses, side dishes and desserts, as well as presentation items such as flowers, greenery, chafing dishes and linen.

A native of Guyana, Hoyte said she incorporated a Caribbean flavor into the menu but also included Southern, Italian, French and Asian food.

"My style of cooking is really gourmet," said Hoyte, who is a graduate of La Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta.

A sampling of the menu includes appetizers such as shrimp brochette, smoked salmon roll-ups, crab cakes and honeyed pork and mango kabobs; salads and soups like chicken pecan salad, roasted butternut squash soup, chicken pecan salad and apple-strawberry spinach salad; and main entrees including rack of pork and lamb, stuffed filet mignon with whiskey, cajun seafood pasta and goat cheese and basil stuffed chicken.

Hoyte caters weddings, parties and other special events as well as corporate gatherings.

The corporate menu varies from the special events selection and includes hors d'oeuvres such as classic chicken salad, chunky guacamole, classic coastal seafood cocktail and beef tenderloin with raspberry chipotle sauce, Caribbean meatballs and Asian chicken satay; and entrees like Jamaican grilled chicken breast, eggplant parmesan, crusted pork loin and Asian stir fried vegetables with tofu.

There's also sandwiches, and deli, fruit and cheese platters available for corporate events.

Hoyte does most of the cooking at the event sites, but can prepare the food off-site at a home in Conyers on Old Salem Road she's renovated for meeting with clients and cooking.

Hoyte and her husband moved from New York City to Conyers in 2005 because they had friends in the area and they wanted to raise their family in a warmer climate. Hoyte's parents and siblings followed her down South.

"I love it here," said Hoyte, the mother of two young children.

Upon graduating from La Cordon Bleu, Hoyte worked briefly as a head chef and manager at a private school in Marietta before deciding to pursue her own business full time.

"It all comes from deep within. It's a passion and it keeps me excited about it," said Hoyte.
