Walk of Heroes flag ceremony postponed

Bad weather causes stop to Pearl Harbor remembrance

CONYERS — The unserviceable flag disposal ceremony planned for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Georgia Veterans War Memorial is cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, according to organizers.

The Walk of Heroes Foundation will reschedule the event that is planned to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Old and unusable U.S. flags will still be collected for the new date.

Flags drop off locations are the Veterans Services office at the J.P. Carr Community Services Building at 981 Taylor St. and the American Legion Post 77 at 764 Legion Road, both in Conyers.

Tommy Clack, chairman of the Walk of Heroes Foundation and area service manager for the Georgia Department of Veteran Services, said he will coordinate with the American Legion to reschedule the event.

Wednesday began with rain and gusting winds. Temperatures were in the upper 50's in the morning and dropped steadily into the mid 40's by mid afternoon.

For more information, call Clack at 770-388-5075 or the American Legion at 770-483-8216.
