Local softball stars make All-State team

COVINGTON -- Eastside's Amanda Hawkins and Erin Steele continue to get praise well after their season finished as both players were named to the Class AAA All-State second team.

Hawkins, who is also the Region 4-AAA Offensive Player of the Year, hit .406 with 17 doubles, one triple and seven home runs. She also had 30 RBIs.

Reaching almost 90 percent of the bases she stole was Steele, who reached 17 times out of her 19 attempts. At the plate, Steele, who had 11 RBIs, had a .355 batting average while betting two doubles and hitting one home run.

In the Class AAAA All-State nominations, Heritage's Simone Davenport was put on the honorable mention list. In her senior season, Davenport had 14 doubles, three triples and three home runs while plating 37 runners. She did it with a .448 batting average.

In the All-Region 3-AAAA team, Alcovy had two players named to the second team with three more making it on the honorable mention list.

Being put on the second team were Lakeiyah Sorrells at short stop and outfielder Chelsea Murphy.

Honorable mentions for the Lady Tigers were catcher Morgan Beshears, first baseman Marie Peck and outfielder Jordan Hilty.
