COVINGTON -- Three members of the same family were arrested and charged in connection with shoplifting at Dollar General Store, located at 2481 Ga. Highway 81, Saturday. according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
Arrested in the incident were Geneva Jennings, 68, of 347 Cowan Road, who was charged with allowing an unlicensed person to drive and party to a crime of theft by taking; Sandra Jennings, 50, of Atlanta, who was charged with theft by taking, aggravated assault and driving without a license; and Jonandi Jennings, 22, of 347 Cowan Road, who was charged with theft by taking.
The items taken were six Powerade drinks, two packs of Trident chewing gum and a package of Sponge Bob Gummy Krabby Patties.
According to an NCSO incident report, the manager of the store told deputies that she observed the 22-year-old male take the Powerade drinks and she saw the 50-year-old woman take the Sponge Bob Gummy Krabby Patties and the two packs of gum.
The manager also alleged that when the shoplifting was detected, the two women got into a vehicle and attempted to leave and as she tried to stop them, they tried to run her down in the parking lot. They left the 22-year-old and he was in the store's office when deputies arrived at the scene.
The vehicle was soon stopped and the women arrested, along with the young man in the store office, and the stolen items were returned to the store.
