COVINGTON -- A very special guest will take part in the annual Covington Christmas Parade Saturday.

Actor Sonny Shroyer, who played good-hearted Deputy Enos Strate on "The Dukes of Hazzard," will return to Covington, where the first five episodes of the series were shot, to ride in the parade. Shroyer was invited to attend by the Dukes of Georgia Auto Club. The club's entry will also feature a General Lee replica and a replica of Deputy Enos's Hazzard County patrol car.

Following the parade, Shroyer will be at the Covington-Newton County Visitors Center at 2101 Clark St. from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Chad Fullerton with the Dukes of Georgia Auto Club said it's the first time Shroyer has been in costume on the Square since "Dukes" filmed there in 1978.

Shroyer lives in Valdosta and continues to act and make public appearances. He portrayed football coach Bear Bryant in "Forrest Gump" and Gov. Jimmie Davis in the biopic "Ray."

The parade begins at 10:30 a.m., starting at Newton Drive and proceeding down Anderson Street and to the Square, then turn south onto Monticello Street, on to Conyers Street, then east down Mill Street and returning to Newton Drive.
