Super 8 Blu-ray + DVD (PG-13)
Movie: 3 out of 4 stars Disc: 4 out of 4 stars Easily the finest throwback of 2011, "Super 8" doesn't have much in the way of original content but it does everything else quite well. An unabashed love note from director J.J. Abrams to producer/mentor Steven Spielberg, "Super 8" is a hodgepodge Frankenstein that proudly apes each and every Spielberg sci-fi flick and more than gets away with it, thanks to superb acting (mostly from teen and preteen performers), a (relatively) short running time and immense special effects restraint. Smart enough for adults and safe for most youngsters, it's a multiple-watch, must-own title. Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/2.40:1), audio: English (Dolby True HD 7.1), French, Portuguese and Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.1), subtitles: English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Special features include: 8 featurettes Deconstructing the train crash Filmmaker commentary Deleted scenes(Paramount, $44.99)More like this story
