Porterdale to hold special election

PORTERDALE -- The City Council voted to hold a special election Tuesday, Nov. 8, in conjunction with the Municipal Election to fill the unexpired term of Post 3 City Councilwoman Arline Chapman. The vote was taken in a special called meeting last Thursday.

Chapman resigned last week in order to run for mayor of Porterdale. She will face incumbent Mayor Bobby Hamby, who is seeking re-election.

Under the city's charter, a special election is required if 12 or more months remain in the unexpired term.

In addition to the mayor's race, Council Posts 1 and 2 will be on the Municipal Election ballot.

In other business, the council heard the first and second readings of an ordinance that would allow alcohol to be served at special events, such as music festivals or car shows. The ordinance would require that the vendor be licensed by the city of Porterdale to sell alcohol.
