CONYERS -- The Rockdale Citizen and Newton Citizen newspapers will launch a combined Weekend Edition, effective the weekend of Sept. 3 and 4. Instead of publishing a paper on each of the two weekend days, the Citizen newspapers will publish one Weekend Edition on Sunday.
"Two primary factors influenced our decision to combine our weekend papers into one edition," said Alice Queen, editor and publisher of the Citizen newspapers. "The costs of production and delivery are certainly important considerations, but we also know that Saturday is a busy day for most readers. By combining our Saturday and Sunday content into one edition, along with all of the advertising content, we provide a comprehensive package of news and advertising on a day when readers have more time to enjoy it."
Features that readers normally find in Saturday's edition will be moved to either Friday or Sunday. The Citizen Religion section will be published on Fridays, along with Saturday's TV listings and crossword puzzle. Saturday's Citizen Poll will be moved to Sundays, as well as Saturday's daily comics page.
"The newspaper business is ever-changing, and we are constantly looking for ways to adjust our operations while still providing the best local news and advertising content for both our print and online readers," said Queen. "More and more we find that delivering news and advertising to meet our customers' needs requires a combination of our printed products and our websites."
The Citizen websites will provide readers with updated news and sports content on Saturdays. Coverage of Friday night's high school football action will appear in print in Sunday's edition. Scores and game coverage will be posted on the Citizen websites on Friday night. Readers will also be able to find news updates online on Saturdays.
Readers can also sign up for email and text alerts for both local news and sports as they are reported. Set up a profile at either www.rockdalecitizen.com or www.newtoncitizen.com and then go to http://www.rockdalecitizen.com/alerts/manage/.
"We appreciate the continued support of our readers as we make this transition," said Queen. "Despite these changes, our objective remains the same, which is to give readers the best local news and advertising in this market, whether that is in print or online."
Readers are welcome to post comments about these changes on the Citizen websites, www.rockdalecitizen.com or www.newtoncitizen.com.
