Newborn man faces sexual exploitation charge

COVINGTON -- A Newborn man faces a charge of sexual exploitation of a child after it was discovered he allegedly engaged in sexual conversations with an 11-year-old girl in Oklahoma.

Newton County Sheriff's Office Lt. Keith Crum said Michael Blake Cox, 21, 65 Saratoga Way, was arrested after officials in Comanche County, Okla., notified the NCSO that they suspected Cox had engaged in conversations described as "very sexual in nature" with the Oklahoma juvenile.

Crum said the girl had gone to a chat room that involved children's game websites. There she was approached by an older male who initiated a conversation with her, Crum said.

The girl's mother found out about the conversations and notified Comanche County law enforcement and an investigation ensued.

Crum said Newton County authorities were notified on Aug. 19. A joint investigation with Comanche County revealed enough probable cause to make an arrest, Crum said. The suspect's computer also was seized and turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for forensic investigation.

"Indications are that there are going to be child pornography images received and sent from that computer," Crum said.

He added that the investigation will continue to "learn if there are any other victims here or in any other area, for that matter."
