NEWTON at SHILOH
Newton Rams (2-AAAAA) Coach: Cortez Allen
2010 record: 6-4Shiloh Generals (8-AAAAA) Coach: Brian Montgomery
2010 record: 1-9
The Brian Montgomery era begins tonight at Shiloh. The former North Atlanta head coach will try to resurrect a program that hasn't had a winning season since 2003.
"We can't turn the ball over and we have to execute our plays," Montgomery said. "It's nothing complicated. The team with the least amount of errors usually wins."
Montgomery has pumped a lot of life into the Shiloh program after school's dismal 1-9 season. The Generals were competitive during summer passing league and their preseason scrimmage against Redan.
Montgomery is hoping that will translate into success this year, starting tonight by hosting Newton.
"They lost a of guys, but they seem pretty fast and physical," Montgomery said.
Montgomery scrapped Shiloh's wing-T offense, which was run by former head coach Keith Wilkes. The Generals will now work out of a pro-style offense. Junior quarterback DeVante James has looked strong during preseason drills.
"He's made some good decisions with the ball," Montgomery said.
Last meeting: Newton won 24-6 last year
Directions to Shiloh High School: From Ga. Highway 78, go south on Bethany Church Road and school is on the right.
