Consultants will teach attendees how to start their own business

COVINGTON -- The Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce is offering a chance to learn the basics of franchising.

The Chamber will host a free seminar called Franchising 101 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at Hampton Inn located at 14460 Paras Drive, N.E.

Franchise consultants FranChoice will educate attendees on the advantages of franchise ownership, capital investment needs, the variety of franchise businesses in the area, and how to find the right franchise based on skills, goals and interests.

"The thought behind this program is that there is a lot of chatter about an incubator-type situation. Although we are in support of it, there are a lot of moving parts and it's pretty cash intensive. Instead of just keeping on spinning this wheel, we thought we would bypass the incubation site and generate energy business-wise with the franchising thought," said Chamber President Hunter Hall.

The seminar is aimed at individuals looking to start a business but aren't sure how to do it; those with high net worth willing to invest money in a new business but not operate it; and those who want to be operators/general managers but need an investor.

"We know that we are lacking severely in our retail We know we have empty store fronts," Hall said.

One school of thought is that there is not enough retail demand, Hall said, but, "We don't agree with that. We think it's related to not understanding the market and the niche and putting the right product in the storefronts."

The second part of the seminar will be held at a later date. For more information, call 770-786-7510.
