COVINGTON -- A 13-year-old boy was fatally injured in a one-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Flat Shoals Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Pynickley Presley, 13, of Covington died when he was partially ejected from a vehicle which overturned after the driver tried to avoid a deer, said GSP spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. 2/10's of a mile south of Stephenson Road. A 1998 Honda Civic was travelling south when a deer came out into the roadway. The 19-year-old driver swerved to miss the deer, lost control, struck an embankment and rolled over several times, Cosper said.
"Pynickley Presley was partially ejected and the vehicle rolled over on him," Cosper said.
There was also a 14-year-old passenger in the vehicle and he and the driver survived.
"Everybody had on seat belts. Pynickley was using restraints, but for whatever reason, they did not restrain him," Cosper said.
The crash is still under investigation.
