On April 16, four small ensembles from the Newton High School Concert Band performed in the Georgia Music Educators Association Solo/Ensemble Festival held at Eastside High School. After just receiving an overall excellent rating in performance and a superior rating in sight-reading for the Large Group Performance Evaluation held on Saturday, March 12 at Stephenson High School, 22 musicians then formed four ensembles, each receiving a superior rating.
The musicians are flute duet with Terrica Rivers and Denisha Vorise; saxophone quintet with Antonio Alvarez, Derek Greene, Shelby Hardeman, Bradford Porter and Camry Wilkins; percussion quintet with Mayakaahla Giscombe, Amari McClain, Austin Sawyer, Landrin Shelton and Anthony Witter; and clarinet choir with Riley Dameron, Jasmine Davis, Taija Gallimore, Alicia Howard, Kyra Huger, Macaiyyah Maolud, Sade McDuffie, Danielle McElroy, Bobbi Pritchett and Ariel Williams.
Also, the Newton High School Symphonic Band received an overall superior rating in performance and an excellent rating in sight-reading for the Large Group Performance Evaluation. Musicians from that group have received scholarship offers from Tennessee State University, Alabama A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Stillman College and Hampton University.
