Members of the Newton County Sheriff's Office pose for a photo with NCSO Sheriff Ezell Brown (far left) and Post Leader Investigator Mark Joyner (far right). The group recently won the 2010 National Exploring Excellence Award, meeting eight out of 11 objectives necessary to earn the award. Those objectives included accomplishing scenarios that demonstrated vehicle pullovers, handcuffing techniques, fingerprinting, community service projects and community-oriented policing events. "It's a great accomplishment for these young men and women to achieve this award in such a short time," said Brown, adding that the post had been active just over a year. Brown said he wants to thank the community for donations made to the post, and especially General Mills which contributed $2,000 toward uniforms and equipment for the members.
