COVINGTON -- Detectives with the Covington Police Department have identified a suspect in the armed robbery of the U.S. Highway 278 location of Game Star in March.
Tavaris Montez Minor, 35, of 4276 Shady Lane Way, Forest Park, has been arrested and charged with armed robberies in multiple jurisdictions, including Covington, Conyers and Austell.
"Investigators from the Cobb County Police, Conyers Police and Covington Police worked together to apprehend this dangerous suspect who is believed to have been involved in approximately nine robberies in the Atlanta metro area since late 2010," said CPD Capt. Ken Malcom.
Minor, who was arrested in Austell, has previously been convicted of other robberies and was on parole at the time of this recent crime spree.
Malcom said the Game Star robbery is the only open case in Covington that Minor has been connected with. Conyers Police have charged him with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with robberies at the GNC store on Ga. Highway 20 on March 30 and RadioShack on Ga. 138 on April 8.
"We don't know why he chose Covington. He's been working kind of a wide area in metro Atlanta and for some reason he chose Covington as one of his locations," Malcom said.
Game Star employees told detectives that a black man wearing a stocking hat and large sunglasses entered the business and began asking questions about some of the merchandise. Once the store was clear of any other customers, the black man produced a handgun and demanded the money from the cash register. The suspect also stole a Sony PlayStation 3.
