CONYERS -- The Hospital Authority of Rockdale County is accepting applications for its third round of grants.
Grant funding is available through HARC's Primary Care Access Grant program and the Small Community Projects Grant program. The Primary Care Access Grant program offers funding for organizations "working to ensure that all citizens in the community have access to primary care," according to Friday's news release. The Small Community Projects Grant program is up to $5,000 "to fund health-related community projects or programs."
Those interested and eligible to receive grant funds should apply by the May 31 deadline. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
A total of 14 local organizations, including city and county departments, were selected to receive grant funds of varying amounts from the small community program last August. That amounted to $50,000.
The board has been pleased with the quality of applications received in the last grant cycles, according to HARC chairperson Ethel Boyle. She said the grants are having a positive impact on the community.
"Our grantee partners are effective, efficient and creative in their efforts to improve the overall health of the citizenry," Boyle said. "They are clearly dedicated to this cause and I am delighted that the authority is able to support their work."
The Hospital Authority launched a grants program last year with the interest money accrued from the February 2009 sale of Rockdale Medical Center to LifePoint Hospitals. The authority conducted a community needs assessment to establish priorities in the county's health needs.
