COVINGTON -- The weather's just right for fishing, and the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center and Junior Bass Busters Club of Covington are providing kids a free opportunity to cast a line.
On Saturday, April 16, the organizations will host a free catch and release kids fishing day from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hayes-Outz Pavilion at the FFA Center off Ga. Highway 36.
"It's an excellent opportunity to spend time with your kids," said Leroy Bagley, educational program specialist with the FFA-FCCLA Center.
Kids can fish for catfish and brim, but they should be prepared to throw their catch back into the lake. Prizes will be handed out to the kid who catches the most fish and the biggest fish and there will be drawings for door prizes. Kids up to 15 can compete, but older kids and parents are welcome to fish. To participate, children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
Participants are asked to bring their own fishing poles; bait will be provided.
A similar event was held in October with 43 participants, Bagley said, adding that the plan is to host at least two free fishing days per year.
Bagley asked that those interested in attending call him by Friday, April 15, at 770-786-6926, ext. 8, or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
