COVINGTON -- Two local post-secondary institutions will team up this month up to present a special event for students.

The Covington campuses of DeKalb Technical College and Troy University are holding a joint College Transfer Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. April 20 at DeKalb Tech's Covington campus, which is located at 16200 Alcovy Road.

The event, which is the first of its kind for the colleges, will provide students, parents and other community members with information about admissions and transferring to four-year colleges.

"Ensuring that students and parents are aware of the local educational options available to them is important to the success of our community," said Jymmyca Wyatt, Business Development director at Troy's Covington site.

Information will be

provided about Troy and DeKalb Tech, as well as other schools like Mercer University and Clayton State University.

Wyatt said that Troy already partners with Covington's Georgia Perimeter College and DeKalb Tech to provide transfer options to Troy for those students who wish to stay in the area to complete a four-year degree after completing a two-year associate's degree.

Troy offers degree programs in business administration, psychology and criminal justice with options for evening, weekend and online courses. Some master's degrees can be obtained in one year through Troy University.

The four-year school has more than 60 sites in 15 states and 12 foreign countries. Its main campus is in Troy, Ala., and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Late last year, the Covington campus moved from the Cousins Center on Geiger St., which it inhabited since 2002, to a building at 1160 Monticello St..

Its next term will begin in May 2011.
